RIDOH recommends reopening Middletown, Smithfield beaches

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health has recommended that two previously closed beaches be reopened.

Third Beach in Middletown and Slack’s Pond Beach in Smithfield have been retested and show that bacteria levels have returned to safe levels.

The two beaches were closed yesterday alongside six others when they were shown to contain dangerously high bacteria levels.

Peabody’s Beach in Middletown, City Park and Conimicut Beach in Warwick, as well as Kent County YMCA in Warwick all remain closed.

The department said that it would monitor the water quality of each beach and notify the public to any changes.

Updates on beach closures can be found here.
