RIDOH warns of algae blooms as summer approaches

\PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health is reminding people to keep an eye out for toxic algae in lakes and ponds this summer.

According to officials, if the water looks bright or dark green, or there are algae mats floating on the surface, they are advising not to swim or get in contact with it.

RIDOH said pets, in particular, can get very ill from ingesting the toxin by licking it off their fur or ingesting it directly.
