PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced today that they created Washington Bridge travel time charts.

These charts will show the change in travel times on different days and hours of the day on nine different routes.

There is also specific data to actual travel times observed and actual travel times for the week prior to the bridge’s closure.

RIDOT shared that the travel tool uses the same date that is shared among all popular navigation and GPS devices.

This probe data provides information on the speed of the vehicles carrying the cell phones that transmit the tracking signals.

All speed data is then computed into travel time based on the length of the segments in each route.

Gov. Dan McKee gave a message about this new tool:

“We apologize for the disruption that many Rhode Islanders are experiencing as a result of the Washington Bridge closure. These charts are an additional tool to help residents anticipate and plan for the added drive time on different days of the week at different times of the day. I thank you for your continued patience. Together, we will fix the bridge, we will do it right and we will keep Rhode Islanders safe.”

RIDOT will update these charts every weekday.
