RIDOT, RIPTA budgets to be discussed at State House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Tuesday the Senate Finance Committee will meet to hear testimony on budgets for the Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.

The committee will discuss funding for this year’s supplemental budget and next year’s fiscal budget.

The committee will also hear testimony on two transportation-related bills.

The first bill would impose a 75-cent surcharge on fares charged by rideshare companies.

If considered, the sales tax would go towards RIPTA.

The second bill would require public utility companies to plan work in partnership with RIDOT when working on state roads.

Today’s hearing is at 6 p.m.
