PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) – In a statement released Wednesday, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced the dates and schedule for the closing of the Pine Street Bridge in Pawtucket, R.I..
As part of a broader project to rehabilitate deteriorating infrastructure, RIDOT will be closing the Pine Street Bridge starting June 10, 2018 for repairs.
The department expects the bridge will be closed for four months, though the duration may change based on weather.
Travel lanes on I-95 North and South starting at exit 27 will be shifted to the left before the bridge is closed down. This shift will begin on Friday, June 1 for I-95 North and Monday, June 4 for I-95 South. All ramps and exits will remain open.
There will also be a series of overnight bridge closures for the duration of the project, which are scheduled to occur periodically while construction is underway. These closures will take place between 11:00 P.M. and 4:00 A.M.
RIDOT will also be conducting closures towards the end of the project in August. The first set of closures are scheduled to take place on June 10, 2018.
Exact dates for closures will be released on RIDOT’s website, at www.ridot.net/traveladvisories.
RIDOT claims that it will be using the latest technology and techniques to ensure that construction is completed as quickly as possible. According to the department, closing the bridge down entirely, rather than only partially, will allow the project to proceed more quickly.
Detour maps are available on RIDOT’s website, at www.ridot.net/detourmaps. You can find out more about RIDOT’s RhodeWorks project at www.ridot.net/RhodeWorks.
The project is currently scheduled to be completed in Spring 2019.
