RIDOT to continue demolition work on Washington Bridge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — RIDOT’s Washington Bridge demolition project is expected to continue Monday at the same old Gano Street off-ramp location.

RIDOT said crews continued the demolition work on Saturday.

Crews plan to continue demolition work Monday and throughout the week, weather permitting.

RIDOT has partnered up with the Coastal Resources Management Council for the work.

Crews will be placing barges under the spans to catch any debris that may fall and it will then be removed and disposed of.

Dust and noise levels continue to be monitored daily.

There are also some lane closures to keep an eye on, starting Tuesday and through Thursday.

Expect overnight right and center lane closures on the bridge on I-195 east for installation of electrical cables, from now until Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday.

Drivers can also expect two lanes of travel to be closed on both I-195 east and west before and after the Providence River Bridge.

This closure is for bridge preservation work.

These precautions are a part of RIDOT ’s efforts to maintain and ensure the safety of the bridge.

The demolition is projected to complete by the end of the year.
