RIDOT to perform 3 ‘weekend-long’ construction operations

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department Transportation it will perform three weekend-long construction operations starting on Nov. 7.
The operation will feature lane closures and lane shifts on major highways in Providence on Interstate 95), North Smithfield on Route 146, and Warwick/East Greenwich on I-95 and Route 4.
Two lanes in each direction of I-95 for the decommissioning of a bridge over an inactive rail line near Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence.
The schedule for this work and traffic impacts is as follows:
Nov. 7 to Nov. 10: Starting at 8 p.m., RIDOT will close the two right lanes in each direction of I-95. The lanes will remain closed through the weekend, reopening by 5 a.m. on Monday, prior to the morning rush hour.
Nov. 10 to Nov. 14: There will be a lane split on I-95 South at this location with two lanes on either side of the split. All lanes go through.
Nov. 14 to Nov. 17: Starting at 8 p.m., RIDOT will close the two left lanes in each direction of I-95. The lanes will remain closed through the weekend, reopening by 5 a.m. on Monday, prior to the morning rush hour.
RIDOT will close one of the two lanes on Route 146 South at the Route 146A interchange in North Smithfield.
The department said the closure is to finalize construction so it can shift Route 146 traffic onto a new, wider bridge.
RIDOT will also shift lanes on sections of I-95 and Route 4 where the two highways meet in Warwick and East Greenwich.
Changes will be as follows between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.:
Nov. 7 and Nov. 8:
- I-95 South between Exit 24B (Route 4 South) and 24A (Route 2 South), all lanes shifted to the left.
- The right lane drop and merge prior to Exit 24A will be shifted slightly so drivers encounter it approximately 1,500 feet sooner than its current location.
- Shoulders will be closed with barriers along the I-95 South Route 24A ramp to Route 2 South, and the ramp from Route 2 South to I-95 South.
Nov. 14 Nov. 15:
- I-95 North after Exit 24B (Route 2 North), all lanes shifted to the left.
- Route 4 South, on the ramp from I-95 South to Exit 9 (Division Street), all lanes shifted to the left.
