RIDOT to reduce lanes on I-295 bridge in Cumberland Thursday night

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said it will temporarily reduce the number of travel lanes in each direction of Interstate 295 at the Mendon Road Bridge starting Thursday night.

The reduction will mean each side of the bridge will have two travel lanes instead of three near exit 20.

The department said the reduction “creates work zones on both sides of the highway to allow RIDOT to continue rehabilitation of the bridge.”

RIDOT said the lane reductions will be in place until late 2024.
