RIPTA detours several routes due to weather

RIPTA TO DETOUR ELEVEN ROUTES DUE TO WINTER STORM ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2016

Some Routes Experiencing 15-35 Minute Delays

Providence, Rhode Island, February 8, 2016 — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced that eleven routes remain on detour on Monday, February 8, 2016 due to winter weather conditions.   Routes 6, 14, 21, 27, 29, 49, 55, 58, 60, 64, 71 and 87 are currently on detour.   Riders may expect some delays on all routes due to weather conditions and are advised to use extreme caution at bus stops due to decreased visibility and slippery conditions.

The safety of our employees and passengers is RIPTA’s top priority. RIPTA apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for the public’s understanding as we work around to maintain service during this storm.  

The following routes are on detour:

Route 6 (Prairie/R.W. Zoo)

Service to CCRI Campus suspended. Inbound and Outbound trips will stay on Prairie Avenue.

Route 14 (West Bay)

Buses will not enter the 1A & 138 Park-N-Ride Lot.  Buses will pick up on the street instead.

Route 21 (Reservoir/Garden City) 

Service to Garden City shopping center suspended. Inbound and Outbound trips will stay on Reservoir Avenue and New London Avenue.

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton)

Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.

Route 29 (Kent County)

Eastbound buses will not travel on Highland Avenue. Trips will travel the regular route to Main Street, continue on Main Street, right onto Pleasant Street, left onto Highland Avenue, left onto Main Street and then resume regular route.

Route 49 (Camp Street)

Service suspended.

Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College)

Service to Fatima Hospital suspended; trips will terminate at Shaw’s Plaza.

Service to Huxley Avenue, Eaton Street and River Avenue suspended.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Douglas Avenue, left onto Admiral Street, and then continue on Admiral Street to Shaw’s Plaza. Reverse on Inbound. 

Route 58 (Mineral Spring/North Providence)

Service to Georgiaville Manor suspended.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport)

Service to Bayview Apartments suspended.

Route 64 (Newport/URI)

Service to South Ferry Road suspended.

Buses will not enter the 1A & 138 Park-N-Ride Lot.  Buses will pick up on the street instead.

Service to URI Bay Campus suspended.

Route 71 (Broad St./Pawtucket Ave)

Service to Job Lot Plaza has been suspended.  Trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Pawtucket Avenue and Carver Street, left onto  Carver Street, right onto Pidge Street, right onto Williams Street, right onto Pawtucket Avenue and then resume regular route northbound.

Route 87 (Fairmount/Walnut Hill)

Service to Morin Heights and Fairmount has been suspended.  Trips will remain on Cass Avenue; trips will terminate at Walnut Hill Plaza.
