RIPTA East Side Tunnel prepares to open
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will reopen the east side tunnel to buses tomorrow for the first time since March.
Ahead of that, Rhode Island leaders will be on site today to celebrate the work.
State and city leaders will join RIPTA for a tour of the new tunnel.
The tunnel was originally built to help the trolley lines navigate the steep College Hill, but was closed in march for “extensive” repairs and renovations.
Bus routes 1, 32, 33, 34, 40, and 61x were detoured for the construction, but tomorrow, will be back on their original routes.
The tour is happening at 11 a.m. this morning.
