RIPTA reminds passengers to mask up for public transportation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA) is reminding passengers that a mask mandate is still in place for public transportation through the Transportation Security Administration’s federal mask mandate.
This reminder comes one day after Governor McKee, as well as other states, have begun to roll back mask mandates.
TSA’s mandate requires both passengers and employees to be masked on, “all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems.”
TSA’s mandate remains in effect through March 18.
RIPTA’s Chief Executive Officer Scott Avedisian released a statement saying, “We continue to maintain effective measures to keep our employees and passengers safe while keeping our buses running.”
There are exemptions in place for those under the age of two and who have a disability that prevents them from safely wearing a mask, anyone in need of one can contact Customer Service at 401-784-9500 extension 2012.
