RIPTA service cuts now in effect from $18 million budget gap

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A reminder for Rhode Island commuters this morning, the sweeping cuts to transit routes across the state are now in effect, as of Saturday.

Last month, RIPTA’s board approved a plan to reduce frequency on most routes, even cutting Sunday and holiday service entirely on some lines.

That’s after state lawmakers passed a budget with an $18 million gap in funding for RIPTA.
