RIPTA to hold 12 public hearings on cuts in the face of $17.6 million deficit

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Next week, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will begin a series of public hearings regarding a budget shortfall.

RIPTA still faces a $17.6 million deficit.

According to a spokesperson, RIPTA will have to cut approximately 90 jobs and 58 bus routes.

It is also considering a fare increase.

RIPTA will hold 12 public hearings on the proposed changes.

The first meeting will be Monday July 28 at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus in Warwick.
