RIPTA to hold public hearings on proposed service changes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — RIPTA plans to hold public hearings on proposed service changes in all Rhode Island counties.
The hearings will take place Feb. 12-15, Feb. 19 and Feb. 21.
An announced reduction in service attributed to a driver shortage was announced is at the crux of the hearings.
RIPTA is planning to “recalibrate its schedules” due to the shortages, and will provide the level of service it is able to consistently run.
Low-performing routes and trip times will determine the proposed service changes and resources will be shifted from low-performing routes to high-performing routes.
33 regular bus routes will be affected by these changes.
Input from the public hearings will go to RIPTA’s Board of Directors the Board will vote on the proposed service changes at its February 22, board meeting.
If approved, the service changes would go into effect on Saturday, April 6.
