RI’s Elizabeth Beisel Nominated For Female Athlete Of Year By USA Swimming
Phelps, Lochte, Coughlin lead Golden Goggles nods
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and
Natalie Coughlin have earned a leading four nominations each for
the Golden Goggle awards, which honor USA Swimming's top
performances.
The awards will be given out Nov. 22 in New York in a ceremony
hosted by Natalie Morales of the “Today” show.
Phelps, Lochte and sprinter Nathan Adrian are nominated for male
athlete of the year. Coughlin, along with Rebecca Soni, Dana
Vollmer and Elizabeth Beisel, are nominated for female athlete of
the year.
Phelps, Lochte and Coughlin each earned two individual
nominations and two relay nods.
The nominees for the perseverance award, given to a swimmer who
came back from injury, adversity or retirement, are Amanda Beard,
Tyler Clary, Jessica Hardy and Kate Ziegler.
Fans can vote for the winners online through Nov. 19.
