PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)— The sewing machine in the second floor workroom at RISD has hardly sat idle these past few weeks. Junior Zoe Grinfeld has been keeping it busy as she puts the finishing touches on her collection for a show at Styleweek.

“There’s a lot of little things left but it’ll all be runway ready,” said Grinfeld, 20.

Zoe, in a way, has always been ready. Her love affair with clothes started early. She was sketching and designing before junior high.

“I didn’t know how to sew so I would just look around my house and make clothing out of anything that I could find. Then when I finally did learn how to sew, I fell in love with it,” she said.

Her creations have helped the Connecticut native take the top spot on Lifetime’s ‘Project Runway: Threads’ when she was just 15.

“I’m trying to use that experience and grow from a kid designer to an adult designer,” Grenfeld explained.

Her colorful collection is a reflection on high school and includes some varsity influences.

“I wanted to take a look at adolescence being on the other side of it now that I am in college and growing up; becoming an adult,” she said.

On Thursday night, before family, friends and Rhode Island fashionistas, she’ll show off these designs she’s worked so hard on all summer. Then it’s back to work. After all, classes just started.
