RISD pro-Palestine protest goes on as 22 students refuse to leave admin building
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — 22 students are barricaded inside the RISD Administration Building on Washington Street as part of a protest demanding the school divest from Israel.
President Crystal Williams said Tuesday that she, along with Provost Touba Ghadessi, spent over five hours Monday night with student leaders in 20 Washington Place discussing their demands.
Williams added that, given the situation, students would not have access to the building until further notice, and classes were moved to alternate locations.
Students could be seen in the windows of the building and an encampment also formed outside of the building on the sidewalk.
Protesters tell ABC 6 they are gathering there to stand in solidarity with the students inside the building.
Police were present on-scene Tuesday morning.
Students could also been seen delivering food and drinks to the protesters.
