PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A college student studying in Providence is headed to Hollywood after winning an international illustration contest.

Carina Zhang, a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, won the 40th L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest.

The contest was launched in 1988 by American author Lafayette Ron Hubbard and presents awards for science fiction art.

Zhang’s selection earns them a trip to Hollywood for a week-long master-class workshop and awards ceremony.

Their art will be published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 40.

Zhang strives to “improve cultural humility in illustrations, explore the therapeutic aspect of the art-making process in clinical use, and use storytelling to bring joy to the world,” according to a press release from the Galaxy Press.
