RISPCA accepting dogs and cats from Texas shelter impacted by Hurricane Beryl
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said it is accepting dogs and cats from a shelter in Lake Jackson, Texas which was affected by Hurricane Beryl.
RISPCA said that it is expecting 13 dogs and up to 40 cats and kittens from the SPCA of Brazoria County, which is located 55 miles from Houston.
“Those animals will be received at our Amaral Street location, which is being opened for that purpose and which will be staffed primarily by our Humane Emergency Animal Response Team of volunteers,” RISPCA President and General Agent Wayne Kezirian said.
The animals are expected to arrive on July 18 and should be available for adoption by the last week of July.
The organization said that it does not usually accept animals from out of state due to its kennels being full, but staff from RISPCA have been in contact and have visited the Texas shelter.
