RISPCA: Animal abandonment seeing a large spike
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Seven domestic rabbits were found abandoned at Rocky Point Park last week.
Thanks to the work of volunteers, all of the rabbits have been caught, but rabbits have been pinpointed as a particular issue because domestic rabbits are often not spayed or neutered.
Due to the RISPCA being at capacity so often, pet owners will often abandon their animals.
“We can help folks by meeting their animal, assessing their animal, and we can actually post an animal for adoption while it is still in the home of the person who needs to surrender the animal,” said Wayne Kezirian, President of the RISPCA.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case of the abandoned rabbits.
