Roads reopen after train derailment causes street closures in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — All roads are back open after a train derailment in Cumberland led to street closures throughout the town on May 29.
While moving at slow speeds on the evening of May 28, the train, which was carrying vehicles and plastic pallets, derailed in Valley Falls.
The next day, parts of Mill Street, High Street, and Titus Street were shut down.
Cranes arrived from New York to help clear the tracks and reopen the intersection, and ended with train cars split in half.
By Friday morning, four of the six cars were gone. Crews have continued to clean up the other two cars, which were loaded with plastic pellets.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
