PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – With a scorching hot weekend on the way, even Roger Williams Park Zoo is helping animals to get ready for the heat.

While some animals are from tropical locations and used to hot weather, zoo staff is keeping an eye on those that aren’t.

Extra precautions are being taken, giving sensitive animals access to inside facilities and air conditioning as well as topping off water bowls and giving them special treats.

“We freeze things they like, like the fish juice and fish parts into an ice ball,” said Executive Director Dr. Jeremy Goodman. “It keeps them cool and it’s fun for the animals.”

For those who plan to hit the zoo over the weekend, Dr. Goodman said the spray park will be open, and they have lots of Del’s Lemonade and ice cream available as well.

Guests can also head to the Faces of the Rainforest exhibit, where it’s always 75 degrees.
