Roger Williams Park Zoo shares the passing of Nicko, baby two-toed sloth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Roger Williams Park Zoo has shared the passing of one of their baby sloths. 

The zoo’s shared that their two-toed sloth named Nicko passed away from a respiratory illness 

“Today, we are truly heartbroken to share the unexpected passing of Nicko, our beloved baby two-toed sloth.” they said. 

The rainforest and veterinary staff are continuing to monitor all the sloths for changes in their condition or behavior, said the zoo.

Two of the other sloths are currently undergoing treatment and are responding positively.

Beanie, Nicko’s mom, appears to be behaving normally and the zoo said they will continue to monitor her behavior as well.

“Our zookeepers, veterinary and animal care staff, and the entire Roger Williams Zoo family are mourning this loss deeply. Nicko will always be remembered for his gentle spirit and will be missed greatly by all,” they shared.
