Rollover accident released 18 crushed cars onto I-95
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police (RISP) troopers responded to an early morning I-95 North rollover crash involving a tractor-trailer Monday.
The incident took place at approximately 2:38 a.m., with the initial investigation revealing that the 65-year-old Cumberland man driving the tractor-trailer struck a barrier separating I-95 from an access road to Smithfield Avenue.
The vehicle is registered to AGP Construction in Johnston, and was carrying 18 compacted and crushed cars, which were spilled onto both the highway and access road, according to RISP.
The RISP Commercial Enforcement Unit, DEM Hazard Specialists and RIDOT assisted in the investigation and cleanup efforts.
The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured and received several moving violations.
The accident shut down lanes of travel and the Smithfield Avenue access road until 7:53 a.m.
