Route 37 East in Cranston to be closed Nov. 3 weekend

Suggested detours for Route 37 during the Nov. 3 weekend closure. (RIDOT)

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that it will be closing Route 37 eastbound between Interstate 295 and Interstate 95 between Nov. 3 and Nov. 6.

RIDOT said the closure will allow for the demolition of the old bridge and the sliding in of a new deck for Route 37 eastbound over the Pawtuxet River near the Pontiac Avenue exit.

While the closure will not affect westbound lanes, ramps connecting I-295, Route 2, and Pontiac Avenue with Route 37 eastbound will be closed for the weekend.

The following detours will be in place during the work:

  • Drivers on I-295 or travelling from the west should follow I-295 South and use Exit 27A to reverse direction onto I-95 North to reach Route 37.
  • Drivers travelling form the north should use I-95 South to Route 37, or other local roads.
