Run Rhody’s Family Turkey Trot marks its 10th year
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Rain didn’t dampen the 10th running of Run Rhody’s Family Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.
Runners of all ages came together to compete and celebrate the tradition
“It’s really a get-back race for me,” Coventry resident Brayton Gazerro said. “I’ve been injured for the past three months, and this is a great way to refresh myself. It’s also a great way to see people I haven’t seen in a while—college friends, people coming home. I ran here last year and got second, which was pretty fun.”
Organizers said the event isn’t just about friendly competition, it’s also about giving back.
As part of the race, participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will go directly to the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen.
Race Director Siobhan Breagy said the combination of tradition and community spirit keeps runners coming back every year
“A lot of these competitors, it’s a tradition they do every single year,” Breagy said. “People see Thanksgiving on the calendar and know it’s time to run with us.”
