Safe Storage Act firearms bill to be discussed in RI Senate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island senate will meet to consider the “Safe Storage Act,” legislation would require all firearms to be stored in a locker, or equipped with a lock when not in use by its owner or licensed user.

If the bill passes, unsafe storage of a firearm would be a civil offense.

Gun owners who don’t follow it could face a fine of up to $250.

The bill already passed a vote in the house.

The legislation would be sent to the governor for approval if it passes through the senate.
