Community stages ‘standout’ to support Brockton High School

BROCKTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Community members are coming to the side of Brockton High School amid a call for the National Guard to be called in to patrol the school.

According to our affiliate, WCVB, dozens of community members gathered Monday morning holding signs that read “We believe in BHS,” and “Real change not pocket change.”

This comes after members of the Brockton School Committee asked for support from the National Guard last week to “prevent a potential tragedy.”

The committee claims that violence and substance abuse have become a serious issue, and the situation has gotten so bad that 35 teachers have missed school.

Many families are concerned that the request is “over the top.”

The head of the school committee does not support bringing the National Guard to the school.
