PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Hundreds of swimmers from around the country along with local volunteers will be gathering for the 2024 Save The Bay Swim fundraiser.
Save The Bay opened its registration for the annual Swim fundraiser that provides critical support to improving the Narragansett Bay and watershed on Monday.
Those interested in registering for the 2024 Swim are encouraged to visit Save The Bay’s website, or contact Leanne Danielsen at ldanielsen@savebay.org.
The registration fee for qualifying swimmers is $50, with a $400 fundraising minimum.
For those who do not qualify as a swimmer, the event also offers options for a virtual swim. Virtual options require a $25 registration fee and a $200 fundraising minimum.
This two-mile swim through open water takes place Saturday, July 13. Its course will begin at the Naval War College in Newport and end in Jamestown’s Potter Cove.
Executive Director, Topher Hamblett shared:
“The Swim is not only Save The Bay’s flagship fundraiser, it’s also an inspiring community event that demonstrates the role we can all play in advocating for Narragansett Bay. The waters our swimmers now jump into willingly were once deemed too polluted for human contact. We have plenty of environmental challenges left ahead of us, but we have made notable progress since this event first began, nearly 50 years ago.”
Spokesperson Leanne Danielsen added:
“The Swim offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to exercise your right to a clean and healthy Narragansett Bay. For anyone looking for a refreshing challenge that offers stunning views of the Newport Bridge, an amazing, supportive Swim community, and a meaningful cause—the Swim is for you!”
