Scarborough South State Beach to close parking lot during weekdays starting Monday

(WLNE)

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has reminded beachgoers that starting Monday, Scarborough South State Beach’s parking lot in Narragansett will close on Monday, August 19 during weekdays.

The parking lot will be open for parking on weekends only for the remainder of the summer beach season.

Concessions will remain open at Scarborough South on weekends, and the swimming area will be reduced to Scarborough North State Beach’s lifeguard area.

The restrooms and showers at Scarborough South will also be closed during the week.

RIDEM said the closure “contends with a shrinking summertime labor force with lifeguards, park rangers, and facility attendants returning to college and high school.”

All beach facilities will close officially on Labor Day, Sept. 3.
