JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Some school districts cancelled class Monday due to weather concerns.

The Chariho Regional School District cancelled class due to safety concerns along the roads amid heavy wind and rain.

The Jamestown School Department cited a lack of transportation shortly after the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority restricted access to the Newport Pell and Jamestown-Verrazzano bridges. The bridges were closed to certain vehicles, including school buses.

Afterschool activities were also cancelled.

Woonsocket Public Schools, Central Falls Public Schools, and The Met — East Bay in Newport also announced closures.

Several other schools in Woonsocket were closed due to power outages, including Good Shepherd Catholic Regional School, Beacon Charter High School, and Founders Academy.

Foster-Glocester cancelled school for PreK-12. There was no virtual learning for grades 6-12.

A full list of closures can be found the ABC 6 website.

Monday’s storm brought damaging winds, downed trees and power lines, and potential coastal flooding. It was the second Monday storm in a row aligning with the morning commute.
