UPDATE: Search suspended for boaters reported missing off Block Island

The U.S. Coast Guard says a search for two missing boaters off the coast of Rhode Island has been suspended.

The Coast Guard was informed Sunday Sept. 18th, 2016 that 54-year-old Linda Carmen and her son, 22-year-old Nathan Carmen, failed to return from an offshore fishing trip near Block Island, located about 13 miles south of mainland Rhode Island.

The pair departed from Point Judith on Saturday evening in a 32-foot aluminum center console boat.

The Coast Guard searched over 62,000 square nautical miles, an area larger than the state of Georgia, from south of Block Island, Rhode Island to the Canyons off New York.
