Secretary Gorbea plans to modernize voting in RI

By News Staff
Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea wants to make voting and the entire election process easier in Rhode Island.
Gorbea made an announcement at the State House Tuesday outlining her plans to make voting more effective. She proposed new legislation that would allow Rhode Islanders to register to vote online, vote early in person, and tackle some of the problems surrounding mail-in ballots.
“I believe that we can make it easier than ever for Rhode Islanders’ voice to be heard in the voting booth through a combination of improvements to our voter registration system… increased access to voting and strengthening this absentee mail ballot system.”
The legislation will also connect Rhode Island to the “electronic Registration Information Center” or, ERIC.
It’s a multi-state database that cross references voter registration info with other state and federal voter data, removing people who are no longer eligible to vote in the state.
