PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation said that a section of Route 10 north will be closed over the weekend.

Route 10 north, where it meets Route 6, in Providence will be closed 7 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

That section of Route 10 will be torn down and rebuilt as part of the $410 million Route 6/10 Interchange project.

The Department of Transportation warned that the closure will likely cause traffic delays, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Directions for the Route 10 north detour:
  • Take exit 3B for Route 6 west
  • Take the next exit for Hartford Avenue
  • Turn left at the bottom of the ramp
  • Take the next left after the underpass and get on Route 6 east
  • Follow signs to Route 10 north

Large trucks will be directed to the Killingly Street interchange to reverse direction onto Route 6 east.
