Seekonk Police arrest man after assault with gun

SEEKONK, Mass. (WLNE) — The Seekonk Police Department said a man was arrested in connection with an assault at the Motel 6 on Fall River Avenue early Friday morning.

37-year-old Corey Soares was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and batter, domestic strangulation or suffocation, possession of a firearm with a large capacity feeding device, assault to murder, firearms violation, and possession of ammunition.

Police responded to a hang-up 911 call from the motel around 1:30 a.m. to find a woman who claimed she had been assaulted with a firearm and that the suspect had fled.

Police said they executed a search warrant on the motel room and found a semi-automatic handgun.

Soares was arrested around 2 p.m. in a restaurant after he was spotted by an officer.

The department added it is still searching for Soares’s vehicle, a green 2001 Ford F150 pick-up truck with Florida registration 33EKYT.
