Senator Jack Reed travels to Ukraine to meet with Zelenskyy

LVIV, UKRAINE (WLNE) — U.S. Senator Jack Reed, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, has made a return trip to Ukraine this week as part of a Congressional delegation (CODEL) led by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Reed’s visit comes at a critical time for Ukraine following the U.S. Senate’s 70-29 vote in favor of a bipartisan supplemental appropriations package to help Ukraine combat the Russian invasion.

Reed will be joined by U.S. Senators Michael Bennett of Colorado, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire.

The U.S. and international support for Ukraine will be stressed by Reed and other senators as they assess the ground situation.

The group plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other senior officials to discuss the war’s impact on U.S. national security and global stability.

Reed visited Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine members at 7th Army Training Command’s Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany, and met with senior officials from the U.S. Army’s Europe and Africa command.

“Ukraine’s fight is our fight. It’s the fight for democracy everywhere,” said Reed in his remarks. “Because with Putin’s barbaric attack against Ukraine, he signaled that he was attacking decency and democracy throughout the world.”

“Ukraine will triumph. NATO will be stronger,” said Reed. “Democracies everywhere will take a sigh of relief and feel more confident, much more confident about the future.”
