Serial bank robber sentenced to nearly a decade in prison

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said that a Rhode Island man who was previously incarcerated for robbing seven banks was sentenced for robing four banks in a three-day span.

48-year-old Vaughn Watrous pled guilty to bank robbery charges on April 24, 2024 after he admitted to robbing three banks in Providence and Cranston between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, 2021.

He was sentenced to 108 months of incarceration to be followed by one year of federal supervised release.

Watrous was previously convicted of multiple bank robberies in Utah and Rhode Island in 1997, 2003, and 2013.
