FOSTER, R.I. (WLNE) — An 80-year-old woman has been killed as a result of a serious crash in Foster Friday afternoon.

Rhode Island State Police said first responders were initially dispatched around 2:15 p.m., on Route 6 in Foster, near 157 Danielson Pike, for the report of a crash involving a car and the cab of a tractor trailer.

Sylvia Johnson, of Plainwoods Road, was pronounced dead by medical personnel after arriving at Rhode Island Hospital.

The operator of the tractor-trailer cab sustained minor injuries.

It is believed a car driven by Johnson was driving in the westbound lane, and veered into the eastbound lane, subsequently colliding with the tractor-trailer cab.

"The crash resulted in the closure of all four travel lanes on Route 6/Danielson Pike in both directions near the crash site for about two hours. Traffic was diverted onto alternate routes until all travel lanes were reopened about 4:15 p.m," added Rhode Island State Police.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
