Seventh case of West Nile virus found in Bristol County, first in someone under 50

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) – The Massachusetts Department of Health announced Thursday that a seventh case of West Nile virus was found in Bristol County.
The DOH reports the case was found in a woman in her 30s.
Eleven communities, including Fall River and Seekonk, have been raised to moderate risk for West Nile transmission.
“This is our first West Nile virus case this year in someone under the age of 50,” said Acting Public Health Commissioner Margret Cooke. “This is a reminder that although people over the age of 50 are at greater risk from West Nile virus, all ages can be affected.”
The DOH reminds Massachusetts residents to take proper precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
