NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – According to North Kingstown Police, a level III sex offender has been arrested after attempting to drag a woman into the woods at knifepoint.

Police say around 8 p.m. on December 1st, 2016 an unidentified woman reported a man approached her from behind, grabbed her, and with a knife in hand, tried to drag her into the woods on Devil’s Foot Road, near Heritage Village Apartments.

"I hope they put him away for a long time," said resident Martin Taylor. "He’s going to do something like that to a woman? No. He doesn’t deserve to be around here," he said.

"You don’t really hear about much happening like that in North Kingstown," added Kathy Miserendino. "It’s just a scary thought."

Detectives from North Kingstown Police were able to identify the convicted sex offender as 53-year-old Roger Corbin, of 89 Lake Drive, in North Kingstown.

After freeing herself, Corbin ran off, prompting an extensive search. However, officers were unable to find Corbin that night.

On December 2, 2016, Corbin was arrested and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault to commit a felony; he was held without bail and transferred to the ACI.

Since his release from prison in September, Corbin had been living with minister Ron Mansi and Mansi’s wife on Lake Drive. Mansi and other neighbors in the area told ABC6 News Corbin had been trying to turn his life around.

Corbin has had several victims, including women ranging between 12-38 years-old; all being unknown to Corbin.
