TOWNVILLE, S.C. – Authorities say the teenage male taken into custody following a shooting at a South Carolina elementary school may have fatally shot his father first.

Police say the shooter used a handgun and one of the students was shot in the leg, the other in the foot, and a female teacher was shot in the shoulder during Wednesday’s shooting at Townville Elementary School.

A hospital official says the teacher and child brought there following the shooting have both been released.

The other student, a 6-year-old child identified as Jacob Hall was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Children’s Hospital and remains in critical condition.

At this time there is no evidence that the shooting was related to either terrorism or racism.

Superintendent Joanne Avery, of Anderson County School District 4 said that school has been canceled for the rest of the week.

Counselors are being made available for students.

No further information has been released.
