Shots fired outside restaurant during Cranston St. Mary’s Fest

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Ken Hopkins said that shots were fired outside a restaurant on Phenix Avenue during the city’s St. Mary’s Feast on July 20.

Hopkins said the incident occurred during a “brief altercation” at an outside dining area of the 39 West Restaurant and Lounge, which had police present who “quickly took control of the scene.”

The mayor added that he “agreed” with the Cranston Police Department’s demand for the restaurant to remain closed on Saturday, but that he expects the feast to continue in full.

“I will be reviewing the plans for the final day of the feast with our police department leadership and feast society officers,” Hopkins said. “We want residents and visitors to be able to safely enjoy the last day of this long-standing community celebration.”
