Should ‘sanctuary states’ have taken Sen. Ted Cruz seriously?

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — Almost a year ago, Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced a bill that would bring processing centers for new migrants to Democratic hotspots.

In October, Cruz mentioned new ports of entry for migrants, including Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.

“They would be horrified,” said Cruz.

On Wednesday, Florida Gov. DeSantis flew two planes of undocumented immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, and said “sanctuary states” like Massachusetts “support the Biden administration’s open border policies.”

“These kind of bad-faith proposals do nothing to fix our broken immigration system,” Congressman Jim Langevin said back in October in response to Cruz.

Chair of Martha’s Vineyard Democratic Committee Carla Cooper described the situation as unnerving and said residents were not given any notice.

Similarly, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey began busing thousands of migrants to Washington in the spring.
