UPDATE: State Police identified the man killed in overnight crash

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police have identified the man killed in a single-car accident in Cumberland early Friday morning.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 295 just after 1 a.m. on Friday when it went off the road near exit 20, crashing into several trees in the highway median.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as 65-year-old John Jenkins, of Smithfield, 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Rhode Island State Police. It is unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
