EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A sinkhole at Vitner Park was caused by a rotten pipe, according to the Mayor’s Office.

A spokesperson for the city said that the pipe is currently in the process of being replaced as it was at the end of its “useful life” and due to being damaged by saltwater from high tides.

The spokesperson added that there is temporary construction fencing at the park while crews work to repair the sinkhole, which is planned to be completed by Thursday.
