Sizeable brush fire breaks out in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A significant brush fire broke out in Newport on Tuesday afternoon.

The Newport Police Department said the three-alarm fire started in the area of Third Street between Admiral Kalbfus Road and Van Zandt Avenue.

Police advised that several roads were closed due to the fire and added that anyone in need of a place to shelter could go to St. John’s church on Washington Street.

Officials reported that the fire was extinguished around 6:45 p.m. and said no one was injured.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident to determine a cause.
