Lefty Greg Kay was the key component for the Rebels today in this one between South Kingstown and Cumberland. Kay recorded eight strikeouts on the day for the Rebels, while giving up only two hits in the outing.
His catcher, Liam McGill, played another important role today managing the game behind the plate, while also giving the Rebels their only 2 runs of the day with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
The two teams came into this one with the same record, the Rebels got the best of the Clippers today, winning this one 2-0 thanks to Kay and McGill and improve to 7-1, while the Clippers fall to 6-2.
Also playing today was North Kingstown, facing off against the Panthers from Johnston. The Skippers not off to the start they wanted this year, however, they can always play with the best of them.
We saw a nice display of power by both teams today, getting a home-run from North Kingstown’s Chad Beliveau; as well as a home-run from Johnston’s Joe Michael. Johnston came into this one with the better record, therefore seeing if they can prove themselves as the better team, and they did.
It only took the first five innings to decide this one, as there was no scoring in the sixth and seventh innings. Johnston was able to edge past North Kingstown 6-5, behind Jake Pratte’s two hits and two RBI. Johnston improving to 6-2, while the Skippers fall to 5-4.
