Skunk tests positive for rabies in South Kingstown

Residents of South Kingstown that live by Roy Carpenters beach are advised by the Department of Environmental Management that a skunk in the area that tested positive for rabies has been captured and euthanized.
The skunk attacked a person on Saturday August 15, and all exposed people have been evaluated and are undergoing treatment.
The concern of domesticated animals coming in contact with rabies still remains.
Anyone who has had any physical contact with a skunk or wild animal in the Roy Carpenters beach area should call RI DOH immediately at (401) 222-2577 and South Kingstown Animal Control at (401) 783-3321.
