Smiley announces tax amnesty program for vehicles, tangible taxes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett Smiley announced a Tax Amnesty Program to allow residents and businesses with overdue tangible and motor vehicle taxes the chance to pay delinquent taxes without accruing interest.

“We know that past-due taxes can be a burden to other opportunities for our community. By offering a window to pay off these taxes without penalties, we hope to provide some relief and a path forward to our residents and local business owners,” said Smiley.

The program will begin Wednesday, May 1 and will run through June 30, 2024.

To qualify, individuals or businesses must submit a written request, signed and dated, including full payment within this 60-day window.

You can submit your application in person or by mail to Tax Collector, Room 203, 25 Dorrance Street, Providence, RI 02903.

You can view the Tax Amnesty Application here.
