Smiley hosts New England Mayors discussion on early childhood education

PROVIDENCE , R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Brett Smiley hosted an open discussion today with education leaders and mayors from Southern New England to talk about best practices for early childhood education.

Smiley highlighted the city’s plan for universal Pre-K, as well as urging the Trump administration to allocate more federal funds for early education.

According to Mayor Smiley, Trump was threatening to make more cuts to education.

Smiley said the city had invested two million dollars in early learning, and will continue to show up for students and staff
